King of Pentacles
Stewardship · Stability · Prosperity
The King of Pentacles is the card of practical success. Through steady effort and good judgement, he has built something prosperous and secure. It describes abundance, reliability and leadership in the material world.
What is on the card
A king sits on a throne carved with bulls’ heads, surrounded by grapevines heavy with fruit. His robe is patterned with grapes, he holds a sceptre and a pentacle, and a castle stands behind him.
The bulls are strength, patience and the earth. The grapes are abundance and the reward of good work. The castle is security built over time, and he sits at ease, at home in his success.
King of Pentacles, upright
Upright, the King of Pentacles describes prosperity and stability: business success, financial security and a leader who is generous and dependable.
He favours practical wisdom and long-term thinking. Wealth, here, is used to build and to protect.
King of Pentacles, reversed
Reversed, the King of Pentacles can show money or status becoming too important: greed, stubbornness or success at any cost.
It may also describe poor financial decisions, or rigid control. The reversed card asks whether your resources are serving your values.
