The King of Swords is the card of intellectual authority. He rules by reason, truth and principle. It describes clear thinking, fair judgement and the strength of a well-made decision.

01

A king sits on a throne facing forward, holding an upright sword. Butterflies are carved on the throne behind him, and clouds and tall trees fill the sky.

Facing forward, he looks at the situation directly. The upright sword is truth and clear judgement, close to that of the Justice card. The butterflies are transformation, and the clouds and open sky belong to air, the element of the Swords: thought and communication.

02

Upright, the King of Swords describes authority, clear thinking and fairness: someone, perhaps you, who makes decisions based on facts and principle.

He favours honesty and logic. Feelings matter, but here they are weighed rather than followed.

03

Reversed, the King of Swords can show authority misused: manipulation, harshness or rules applied without fairness.

It may also describe cold logic that leaves no room for feeling. The reversed card asks whether power and intelligence are being used fairly.

04

In love, the King of Swords describes honesty, clear communication and a partner who is fair but may seem reserved.

What it means for you: Whether he represents someone else or yourself depends on your question.

With money, the King of Swords favours logic, clear agreements and expert advice.

What it means for you: What it suggests for your finances is personal. A reading offers reflection, never financial advice.

Usually “yes, if it is reasonable”.

As a yes or no card, the King of Swords usually leans toward yes when the facts support it. It suggests a decision based on reason will hold.

A meaning is general. Your reading is not.
