Seven of Wands
Defence · Conviction · Courage
The Seven of Wands is the card of standing your ground. You have reached a position worth defending, and others are pushing back. It describes courage, conviction and the effort it takes to hold on to what you believe in.
What is on the card
A young man stands on higher ground, holding a wand ready to defend himself, while six wands rise toward him from below. He wears two different shoes, as if he had to rush into the fight.
The higher ground is an advantage: a position earned that gives him the upper hand. The wands from below are challenges, rivals or criticism. The mismatched shoes suggest the struggle came unexpectedly, and that he is defending himself with whatever he has.
Seven of Wands, upright
Upright, the Seven of Wands asks you to stand firm: defend a decision, protect a boundary or keep going in the face of competition or criticism.
It favours conviction without aggression. You do not need to win every argument, only to hold the ground that truly matters.
Seven of Wands, reversed
Reversed, the Seven of Wands can show feeling overwhelmed or worn down by pressure, and the temptation to give up a position you still believe in.
It may also describe defending something out of habit, long after it stopped being worth the fight. The reversed card asks which battles are still yours.
