Seven of Swords
Strategy · Privacy · Independence
The Seven of Swords is the card of strategy and secrecy. Someone is acting alone, quietly, and perhaps not entirely honestly. It describes cunning, getting away with something and the question of what is being hidden.
What is on the card
A man tiptoes away from a camp of tents, carrying five swords in his arms and looking back over his shoulder. Two swords remain stuck in the ground behind him, and in the distance a few soldiers gather.
The carried swords are an advantage taken in secret. His backward glance shows he knows he could be caught. The two swords left behind suggest a plan that is incomplete, and the distant soldiers that he has not entirely escaped notice.
Seven of Swords, upright
Upright, the Seven of Swords describes strategy, secrecy or deception: someone acting behind the scenes, avoiding a direct conversation or trying to get away with something.
It can also simply mean working alone and thinking strategically. The card asks where discretion is wise, and where it has become dishonesty, your own or someone else’s.
Seven of Swords, reversed
Reversed, the Seven of Swords can show a secret coming out, or a decision to come clean.
It may also describe listening to your conscience, or taking good advice rather than going it alone. The reversed card asks for honesty, even when it is uncomfortable.
Seven of Swords in love
