VI · Transition & Healing
Six of Swords
Transition · Distance · Healing
The Six of Swords is the card of moving on. You are leaving a difficult situation behind and heading toward something calmer. It describes transition, gradual healing and the relief of distance.
What is on the card
A ferryman poles a small boat across the water toward a distant shore. A woman wrapped in a cloak sits in the boat with a child beside her, and six swords stand upright in front of them. The water is rippled on one side of the boat and smooth on the other.
The boat is a passage from one stage of life to the next. The cloaked woman and the child carry their sorrow with them, but they are moving. The swords travel too, memories that come along on the journey. The smoother water suggests calmer days ahead.
Six of Swords, upright
Upright, the Six of Swords describes transition: leaving a hard situation, travelling, or slowly moving toward peace and stability.
The crossing may still feel tender, but distance and calmer conditions help healing take place.
Six of Swords, reversed
Reversed, the Six of Swords can show resistance to moving on: unfinished business, or a transition that is delayed.
It may also describe carrying old problems into a new place. Sometimes it marks a truth that needs to be spoken before you can leave. The reversed card asks what still needs to be resolved.
