VI · Exchange & Reciprocity
Six of Pentacles
Exchange · Generosity · Reciprocity
The Six of Pentacles is the card of giving and receiving. Resources flow from those who have more to those who need them. It describes generosity, fairness and the balance between helping and being helped.
What is on the card
A well-dressed merchant holds a pair of scales in one hand and drops coins into the outstretched hand of a kneeling beggar with the other. A second beggar kneels beside them, waiting. Six pentacles float above.
The scales are fairness: giving in the right measure. The kneeling figures show need, and the merchant’s place above them shows the power that comes with giving. The card asks about both sides: how we give, and how we receive.
Six of Pentacles, upright
Upright, the Six of Pentacles describes generosity and support: giving or receiving help, a loan, a gift or a fair exchange.
It favours sharing what you can and accepting help without shame. Balance matters: giving should not leave you empty, and receiving should not cost your dignity.
Six of Pentacles, reversed
Reversed, the Six of Pentacles can show an imbalance: help with strings attached, debts, or giving more than you can afford.
It may also describe envy, or generosity used to control. The reversed card asks whether the exchange is truly fair.
Six of Pentacles in love
