VIII · Courage & Compassion
Strength
Courage · Patience · Compassion
Strength is the card of quiet courage. Its power is not force but steadiness: the patience to meet something wild, in the world or in yourself, with calm and compassion. It describes the strength that does not need to shout.
What is on the card
A woman in white gently holds the jaws of a lion, her hands resting on it without strain. A garland of flowers circles her waist and crowns her hair, an infinity sign floats above her head, and a mountain stands in the distance.
The lion is raw feeling: fear, anger, desire, pride. The woman does not fight it; she calms it. Her white robe speaks of a clear intention, and the flowers of gentleness. The infinity sign, shared with The Magician, suggests a strength that renews itself rather than running out.
Strength, upright
Upright, Strength asks you to trust your resilience. It often appears when a situation calls for patience, self-control and a kind word rather than a sharp one.
It also describes courage in the ordinary sense: facing something difficult, staying with a hard feeling, and carrying on with grace.
Strength, reversed
Reversed, Strength can show self-doubt or tiredness, a sense that you have less in reserve than you need. It may point to emotions that feel hard to manage.
The reversed card asks for gentleness toward yourself. Rest, support and small steps can rebuild a strength that has been worn down.
Strength in love
In love, Strength describes patience, understanding and a bond that can hold difficult feelings. It favours gentle honesty over confrontation, and compassion for both yourself and the other person.
What it means for you: Which feelings it asks you to meet with patience depends on your question and your situation.

Usually “yes”.
As a yes or no card, Strength is usually read as a yes, especially when patience and calm are part of the path. It suggests you are more capable than you feel.
A meaning is general. Your reading is not.
