IX · Withdrawal & Patience
The Hermit
Withdrawal · Inner Search · Patience
The Hermit is the card of reflection. He steps away from noise and company to look for his own answers, carrying just enough light for the next step. Solitude, here, is chosen and useful: a pause for clarity.
What is on the card
An old man in a long grey cloak stands alone on a snowy peak, holding up a lantern with a six-pointed star inside it, and leaning on a staff.
The mountain peak is a place reached through effort and set apart from everyday life. The lantern’s star is inner wisdom, giving enough light to see the path just ahead, not the whole road. The staff is support and patience, and the grey cloak suggests modesty and quiet.
The Hermit, upright
Upright, The Hermit suggests time alone to think, reflect and listen inward. It often appears before an important decision, when outside opinions have become too loud.
It can also describe seeking or offering guidance: a mentor, a teacher, or the wisdom that comes from experience.
The Hermit, reversed
Reversed, The Hermit can show withdrawal that has turned into isolation or loneliness, or a reluctance to look inward at all.
The reversed card asks for balance: enough solitude to hear yourself, and enough connection to feel supported.
The Hermit in love
In love, The Hermit can describe a period of being single by choice, time to understand what you want, or a relationship that needs some space. It favours depth over rush.
What it means for you: Whether it suggests space within a relationship or reflection before one depends on your question.

With money, The Hermit suggests a careful, private review of your situation and spending only on what truly matters to you.
What it means for you: What that review should look at is personal. For money decisions, a reading offers reflection, never financial advice.

Usually “not yet”.
As a yes or no card, The Hermit usually suggests waiting. The answer is likely to come after some reflection rather than right away.
A meaning is general. Your reading is not.
