Two of Cups
Mutuality · Connection · Trust
The Two of Cups is the card of partnership. Two people meet as equals and recognise something in each other. It describes mutual attraction, respect and a bond built on give and take.
What is on the card
A young man and a young woman face each other, each holding a cup, as if exchanging a pledge. Above them floats a staff entwined with two snakes and topped by a winged lion’s head. A house stands on a hill behind them.
The exchanged cups are feeling given and received equally. The staff with two snakes, an ancient symbol of the messenger Hermes, is often read as healing and balance between two forces. The winged lion adds passion and strength, and the house suggests the shared home the bond could become.
Two of Cups, upright
Upright, the Two of Cups describes a meaningful connection: a new relationship, a deepening bond, a reconciliation or a partnership based on mutual respect.
It applies beyond romance, to friendships and working partnerships. What matters is that both sides give, and both sides feel seen.
Two of Cups, reversed
Reversed, the Two of Cups can show imbalance in a relationship: one person giving more, broken communication or a connection that has cooled.
It may also describe a separation, or a misunderstanding that needs an honest conversation. The reversed card asks what would restore balance between you.
